The same mannequins that River posted on her blog just days ago were vandalized. Stop by and cheer her up.
CAMBRIDGE (AP) - Three men were arraigned Monday on charges that they vandalized mannequins that were part of a holiday display in downtown Cambridge in southeast Ohio, police said.
Two of the men were arrested after police found them wearing hats taken off the figures, said Cambridge police dispatcher Dave Schick.
The city’s main street has been transformed into a “Dickens Victorian Village,” made up of handmade mannequins in various poses, such as caroling or carrying gifts, according to the art exhibit’s Web site.
Nine different displays were knocked over and damaged early Saturday morning by vandals, Schick said. He said the vandals jumped on the mannequins, and one of the statues lost its head. A witness saw it happen and called authorities, he said.
Three Guernsey County men — Kevin Waugh, 22, John Berger Jr., 23, and Jonathan Bales, 22, were charged with criminal damaging, Schick said. He said Waugh and Bales also were charged with theft after police found them a few blocks away wearing mannequins’ hats.
A police report indicated the men were intoxicated, Schick said.
This is the first year the city has had a Victorian-era village downtown, and volunteers had the displays repaired by noon Saturday, Schick said.
The men are scheduled to return to court Dec. 28, Schick said. Waugh and Bales remained in the Guernsey County jail Monday on $20,000 bond each, and Berger had posted a lesser bond and was released, a jail employee said.
